6 Things I Love and Loathe About London Fashion Week
As New York Fashion Week finished and London Fashion Week (LFW) just started this week, I wanted to share some of my insights and honest opinion of positive and not so positive experiences of attending LFW few years ago. Don’t get me wrong, I was incredible fortunate to attend several designer shows and rub shoulders with fellow London fashionistas, which I documented here, here and here. But despite their allure, fashion weeks also reveal a less glamorous side of the fashion world… THINGS I LOVED 1.Creative buzz – twice a year London transforms into a beehive of buzzing fashion editors, photographers, celebrities, bloggers, PR girls and models roaming from venue to venue. Central London, especially around…

Salomat Ikat: Fashion With a Conscience
I am always on the look-out for smaller independent brands that offer something different and unique. So, when I heard that a friend of a friend started a fair-trade fashion and accessories brand that uses my favorite Ikat fabrics, I had to check it out! If you read one of my older blog posts on Ikat, you would know that I love this traditional Central Asian pattern weaving that produces beautiful and vibrant fabrics. These were typically used to making traditional clothing in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. But with western designers discovering Ikat and incorporating into their runway collections (just think Oscar de la Renta, Gucci and my beloved Tory Burch), this…

2012 LFW Report Day 3: LFW is More Than a Catwalk
Today, while fashion editors, bloggers and everyone else queued for the shows or leisurely sipped coffee in the lounge areas, I decided to check out infamous LFW showrooms. Armed with LFW’s ‘Little Black Book’ that has information on all participating designers and coveted press pass, I scouted the premises of the Exhibition space (open to media and buyers only). (Originally published on www.agi.com) I began my tour with the BFC Press Lounge that hosts Toni&Guy Blow Out Bar, which offers last minute hair styling services, and M.A.C. Media Lounge, where UK and international media professionals can get exclusive information on designers and their shows, work on their latest news updates,…

Tutty Frutty or Wearing “Food” Jewellery
When I created a necklace “Fruits of labour” with various bead fruits and vegetables (not shown here) many years ago, little did I know that this jewellery trend will take off and find itself in many different forms and shapes in the fashion world. Made from real fruit (as seen below), plastic or expensive gemstones, food somehow landed on our necks and ears! de Grisogono Bo Baumer Puces Poireaux Piaget These pieces, made out of gemstones, are very quirky yet luxurious. BUT wait! In 2012 season, Dolce and Gabbana took “food as your jewellery” to the next level! Being truly Italian, not only they celebrated women’s elegance and style, but also showed their healthy…
