Designer Profile: Huishan Zhang Wins Dorchester Fashion Prize

Last year I was lucky to attend London Fashion Week in my capacity as a fashion editor for a small start-up magazine. Out of many collections I got to see one stuck out, it was a presentation by China-born Huishan Zhang. His S/S 2013 collection, inspired by his homeland, was superb both in the execution and presentation.  With Latin American jazz playing in the background, models with hair beautifully braided, glided across the room in elegant and ultra feminine designs. Zhang used light fabrics, such as silk and organza, in minty green, crème, black and different shades of blue to complete the feminine look. I loved that collection so much that we got to photograph one of his dresses for our Christmas issue (see below).

That’s why I wasn’t surprised to find out last night that Huishan won Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize, established by Dorchester hotel group to support emerging fashion talent. The judges voted unanimously for his collection, picking Huizhan over other runner-ups: Emilia Wickstead, Fyodor Golan and Barbara Casasola. The prize was established in 2010 and past winners include Thomas Tait, Anndra Neen and Augustin Teobul.
Congratulations on the well-deserved recognition!
