A Day in Londoner’s Life: Oxo Tower Restaurant and Shard

This was a special weekend, my hubby and I celebrated our mini wedding anniversary. To mark the occasion we decided to do something special. After all, if you don’t spoil yourself, who else will?! The two parts for our Saturday afternoon were a brunch at the fabulous Oxo Tower Restaurant on the South Bank.

Oxo Tower Restaurant

Located at the top of the Oxo tower, the restaurant has amazing views of the Thames River and London skyline setting a great scene for relaxed brunching.

Apart from the quieter and more relaxed restaurant, there is also a brasserie and bar. We opted for a set 3-course menu, which looked and sounded amazing! For starter, I chose for rare venison, root vegetable salad, and redcurrant reduction.

For main I chose sea bass, Jerusalem artichoke purée, samphire, with artichoke chips.

The dessert was something out of this world! Chocolate mousse, coffee ice cream, and walnut brittle…yum!

After the brunch it was time to play tourists in our own city and head to Shard, which we wanted to check out in ages. As you walk along the Thames, there is lots going: from sand sculptures to  live performances and televised Shakespeare’s plays.

And here is the view of the Oxo Tower from a distance.

I never get tired of London skyline, not even on a cold and gloomy April day.

During this weekend, something extraordinary is happening along the Thames. 37 specially-made 10 minute versions of Shakespeare’s plays are being broadcasted on the banks of the river (from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge) to celebrate legacy and mark 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

The Shard

I have finally visited the Shard, one of the tallest buildings in Britain and the whole of Europe.

The View from the Shard is not only an amazing platform for seeing whole of London from the bird’s eye view, but is also a great story telling experience that covers over 1000 years of London’s history.

There were no queues when we came in and the whole process of getting to the top of the building is well navigated and organized. They even give you headphones and a mini tablet to guide you about the history of each famous building you will see from Shard.

How amazing is this view?

Finally, as you exit there are plenty of souvenirs to buy to remind you of the unforgettable experience.
